If you are a homeowner or an apartment dweller, you are going to want to make sure that the place where you live is free from bugs or anything else that you don't want to deal with. This is important because having bugs in your home can make it feel less safe. Here are some tips for keeping cockroaches out of your home.

1. Take the Trash Out Nightly

You might worry that this is going to cost you a lot of money in garbage bags, but taking your trash out nightly has the potential to do wonders for keeping cockroaches out of your home. Cockroaches are attracted to the scent of food and are going to come in if you leave food on your tables. You know this already. However, cockroaches can even smell food in the trash. Try to take out your trash each night so that there is not a lot of food in the garbage can at night. This will keep you from waking up to cockroaches all over your kitchen in the morning.

2. Get Rid of the Crumbs

Next, you might be vigilant about not leaving food on dishes and putting those dishes in the sink without washing them. You might also be vigilant about wiping off the table so that spilled punch is not going to attract bugs with its sugar. You might not be as vigilant about making sure that the crumbs that fall to the floor are swept up. Make a nightly habit of sweeping or vacuuming under your table or anywhere else people are eating food in order to make sure that there is absolutely nothing attracting cockroaches to your home.

3. Use Hot Sauce Spray

Take a spray bottle and fill it a third of the way with hot sauce and the rest of the way with water. Shake until the hot sauce and the water have completely mixed. Then, spray areas where you suspect cockroaches are coming in or anywhere you might have seen cockroaches. This will dissuade cockroaches from coming into your house and risking being exposed to a substance that causes them pain.

4. Spray Roaches With Mint Oil

Finally, if you see a roach, spray it with mint oil. This will cause it to suffocate and die. It is safe to use around children and will allow you to kill the cockroach before it is able to send out signals to other roaches that it has found food.
